坐井观天

Zuò Jǐng Guān Tiān

坐在井里看天，以为天只有井口那么大。比喻眼光短浅，见识有限。

Sitting in a well watching the sky — taking one's small view of the world for the whole truth.

一yī只zhī小xiǎo青qīng蛙wā住zhù在zài井jǐng里lǐ，一yī只zhī小xiǎo鸟niǎo落luò在zài井jǐng口kǒu边biān。小xiǎo鸟niǎo说shuō：“我wǒ飞fēi了le一yì百bǎi多duō里lǐ，渴kě得de不bù行xíng，下xià来lái喝hē口kǒu水shuǐ。”

青qīng蛙wā奇qí怪guài地de问wèn：“你nǐ从cóng哪nǎ儿ér飞fēi来lái？天tiān不bù过guò井jǐng口kǒu这zhè么me大dà，哪nǎ用yòng得de着zhe飞fēi那nà么me远yuǎn？”

小xiǎo鸟niǎo笑xiào了le：“你nǐ错cuò啦la！天tiān大dà得de很hěn，一yī望wàng无wú边biān。你nǐ不bù信xìn，跳tiào出chū井jǐng来lái看kàn看kàn吧ba。”

青qīng蛙wā不bù信xìn，还hái是shì坐zuò在zài井jǐng里lǐ，抬tái头tóu看kàn那nà小xiǎo小xiǎo的de一yī圈quān天tiān，觉jué得de自zì己jǐ什shén么me都dōu明míng白bái。可kě它tā不bù知zhī道dào，外wài面miàn的de世shì界jiè比bǐ它tā想xiǎng象xiàng的de要yào大dà得de多duō。这zhè就jiù是shì“坐zuò井jǐng观guān天tiān”——坐zuò在zài井jǐng底dǐ，把bǎ天tiān看kàn小xiǎo了le。

A little frog lived at the bottom of a well. One day a little bird came to rest at the rim. “I've flown more than a hundred miles,” the bird said. “I'm so thirsty I had to come down for a drink.”

The frog was puzzled. “Where did you come from? The sky is only as big as the mouth of this well — why would you need to fly so far?”

The bird laughed. “You're wrong! The sky is huge, wider than you can see. If you don't believe me, hop out of the well and look for yourself.”

The frog didn't believe it. He stayed in his well, looked up at his tiny circle of sky, and felt he understood everything. He had no idea the world outside was far bigger than he could imagine. That is “sitting in a well, watching the sky” — making the whole sky small because of where you're sitting.
