In ancient times there was a great chess master named Yi Qiu. He took on two students and set out to pass on his skill.

One student gave the lessons his whole heart — he thought carefully about every move and ignored whatever was happening around him. The other seemed to be listening, but his mind kept drifting to the wild geese overhead and how he might shoot one with his bow.

Months went by. The first student grew into a fine player; the second stayed exactly where he had begun. Yi Qiu sighed and said, “Two students, the same lessons, such different results — it isn't a matter of cleverness. It's a matter of attention.”

The story reminds us: to truly learn anything, we must give it our whole mind — zhuān xīn zhì zhì.
