铁杵成针
只要肯下功夫,再难的事也能做成。比喻有恒心,就一定能成功。
Grind long enough and an iron rod becomes a needle — with patience, anything can be done.
唐朝的大诗人李白,小时候并不喜欢读书。他常常跑出学堂,到外面去玩。
有一天,他又逃学跑到河边,看见一位白发老婆婆,正蹲在石头上,用力磨一根粗粗的铁棒。李白好奇地问:“婆婆,您在做什么?”
老婆婆抬起头,笑着说:“我要把这根铁杵磨成一根绣花针。”李白瞪大眼睛:“这么粗的铁棒,怎么能磨成针呢?”
老婆婆放下铁杵,认真地说:“只要天天磨,不停下来,铁杵也能磨成针啊。”李白听了,心里猛地一动,红着脸跑回学堂,从此再也不偷懒了。
后来人们就用“铁杵成针”,告诉自己:只要有恒心,再难的事也能做成。
When the great Tang dynasty poet Li Bai was a child, he did not like studying. He often slipped away from school to play outside.
One day he wandered to a riverbank and saw a white-haired old woman crouched on a stone, rubbing a thick iron rod against it. “Grandma, what are you doing?” he asked.
She looked up with a smile. “I'm grinding this iron rod into an embroidery needle.” Li Bai's eyes grew wide. “This thick rod? How can it ever become a needle?”
The old woman answered calmly, “As long as I grind a little every day and never stop, even an iron rod can become a needle.” Li Bai's heart jumped. He turned red, ran back to school, and never slacked off again.
Today “grinding an iron rod into a needle” reminds us that with patience and daily effort, the hardest task can still be done.
